Recently, we were delighted to sample the delicious and much talked about curry puffs from Old Chang Kee at Waterford Plaza. Old Chang Kee was established in Singapore in 1956, using tried and tested traditional recipes. Today there are 90 outlets in Singapore and 60 branches worldwide. They are famous for their amazing curry puffs, that are made using short crust pastry that is lovely and light.
Here, you will find traditional curry puffs with a twist; the spices are subtle and will appeal to every palate. They are generous in size and you will find that one more than satisfies. They come with a variety of fillings such as Curry o’ Chicken & Egg Puff, Chicken Mushroom Puff, Curry Potato Puff, Mushroom Puff, Mackerel and the newly introduced Cheesy Curry Chicken Puff. They were all mouthwateringly good and truly addictive. But wait, there is more – they also offer a range of tempting ready to eat, conveniently boxed lunch options at very reasonable prices (one meal for $6.90 or two for $10). We loved the dry curry chicken ($6.40) that was exceptional thanks to the beautiful blend of spices. Grab a loyalty reward card from the service crew and before you know it you will be rewarded with a $5 voucher.
There are savoury snack serves of crisp, calamari, battered prawns, crab nuggets on skewers and more. Who doesn’t love food on sticks? For your sweet tooth, we can thoroughly recommend the all-new crispy banana balls with chocolate sauce. These scrumptious balls are made up of banana with a crispy crust, deep fried and then drizzled with a swizzle of rich, smooth, chocolate sauce. These were such a bargain at $4.50 per cup or $8 for two cups. Why not eat some in store and take some away for later, we certainly did!
The service is outstanding; Catherine, Fred and the rest of the crew are brilliant, providing a level of service that will exceed your expectations. The staff are bright, cheery and highly efficient. The store is fresh and welcoming, with fresh flowers and greenery bringing energy to the place. The bright neon, ‘Old Chang Kee’ sign is like a beacon and certainly caught our eye. Call in today for your curry puff fix and while you’re there, don’t forget to take a souvenir pic with the large plush Curry Puff!
