We enjoyed a delightful evening of fabulous food and frivolity with our foodie friends, Andjelka, Inex et. al. at Sakura Sake in Northbridge. At this Japanese eatery, they offer traditional Japanese fare with a modern twist. The menu is extensive and varied, so we recommend you go in a group so you can share a large selection of dishes.

For your convenience, tablets are provided to order at your leisure.  Should you require assistance, a helpful staff member is always ready to assist.  We started off, with a chilled glass of sake, that was served in a wooden box.  It is good luck if the sake overflows in the box and it did.  Hell, we will take all the luck we can get!  The sake was lovely, icy cold with a good kick to it.  One of our party ordered a plum wine, which we tried, it had a sweet subtle flavour, but did not knock our socks off like the sake!

Ordering got a bit frenzied, as everyone called out their suggestions but we were more than happy when the food started to arrive. The dishes were all aesthetically pleasing, smelt amazing and were beautifully plated.  The pièce de resistance though, was the enormous  wooden boat filled with all sorts of delicacies which included an assortment of sashimi and sushi, oysters and crab pockets.  The vegetable tempura was so tasty, the vegetables included eggplant, sweet potato and Japanese pumpkin.  The batter was light and crispy, allowing the full flavour of the vegetables to come through.  A variety of sauces complemented the tempura greatly.  The edamame and fresh garden and seaweed salads brought colour and vibrancy to the table.  The beef carpaccio rolls were relished by all. The pork katsu was voted a winner and we suggest you try it.

The restaurant is large enough to accommodate large groups and is tastefully decorated with dark wood, murals, a pretty pink sakura and sake barrels.   The staff are courteous and attentive, ensuring a pleasurable dining experience. A return visit is definitely on the cards for us!
