Urban Bowl can be likened to the fairytale of the Magic Porridge Pot, which served the whole community but instead of porridge this dynamic, modern eatery provides fresh, tasty Vietnamese food, with a twist for all who work, play and live in the city. Located at Exchange Plaza, Sherwood Court in the heart of the CBD, it is easily the best to turn to for a fresh, healthy, quick and tasty option for breakfast or lunch. It is a veritable boom for the time poor executives in the corporate world as they can take a timely break from the world of mergers and high finance while they pause and nourish their body and soul, in a quick and efficient manner.
Breakfast and lunch are available all day and the menu has recently been expanded. In addition to eggs on toast, muesli, yoghurt and fruit cups, there are also muffins, sandwiches and bagels, pho and soup cups. We really enjoyed the coconut and pandan slice, a steal at just $4. Bargain combos are available so check them out. They use Fiori coffee beans and the baristas make a mean macchiato. For tea aficionados, Simara blends are available in choc beetroot, matcha, chai spice and choc turmeric and may be served ice cold or piping hot. Refreshing iced tea- honey, peppermint and apple juice is just $2 or in a combo with a spring roll for $2.50. Try the ever popular avocado on toast with poached egg, avocado, salad and pickle ($6.90).
The lunch menu includes lighter options, such as freshly made up rice paper rolls with a huge variety of fillings to suit the most discerning of palates. Or you may prefer the banh mis (baguettes) filled with chicken, bbq brisket, pork, tofu or squid and livened up by coriander, cucumber, lettuce, eggplant, sun-dried tomato, garlic mayo and pickle ($9.50). Vegan and vegetarian options are available for most meals. There are rice bowls, noodle soup cups, salad bowls, noodle salad bowls and noodle soup bowls. Every choice is a great choice but our favourite is the noodle salad bowl with lemongrass and cinnamon pork ($12.50). This delicious and satisfying dish is served with salad, herbs, vermicelli noodles, black sesame crackers and peanuts, topped with a crispy spring roll. The free condiments include- a variety of dressings which include, pineapple, special traditional and palm sugar. Fresh green and red chillis, fresh crushed chillis, lemons, Sriracha sauce and mint are also on offer.
Only seasonal, fresh ingredients are used and this is evident from the colour, taste and the texture of every dish. The meals are aesthetically pleasing and one savours every morsel. It is obvious the produce is sourced from the best local producers. The décor has neat, modern lines with a clean minimalist look. The space is light and airy which adds to the soothing ambience. The bold signs that display their motto – ‘Work is Work and Lunch is Lunch’ add a touch of fun to the place. There are stickers on tables advising of phone lockdown zones – which means whoever reaches for their first has to shout everyone coffee! There is indoor and alfresco seating available and food is served in takeaway containers, so one can make a quick dash back to work. Fresh parsley, mint and other herbs growing in the outdoor area bring green energy to the venue.
